Though the Blind Boys of Alabama have sung a fervent blend of traditional and contemporary gospel music since 1939, they have recently reached dazzling new heights, winning five Grammy Awards in eight years.

They’ve lately embraced mainstream songs with a strongly spiritual message, collaborating with artists such as Lou Reed, Randy Travis, Tom Waits and Prince.

“An undeniably charismatic bunch,” according to the Independent (UK), “… they sure know how to put on a show.”
